Dodecanese islands

The island complex of Dodecanese in south-eastern Aegean is the sunniest corner in Greece. Twelve large islands and numerous smaller ones with crystal clear waters, sandy or pebbly beaches, important archaeological finds, imposing Byzantine and medieval monuments and unique traditional settlements are waiting to be discovered. If you are desperately seeking to discover lesser-known, unspoiled destinations visit Leros or Pserimos. But there is always Rhodes and Kos, larger and more cosmopolitan islands awaiting to offer you strong, and treasured memories. Just take your pick!

The Sunniest Greek Island
Kos Island
Patmos. The “island of the Apocalypse” or “Jerusalem of the Aegean” welcomes you! Patmos is quite popular amongst pilgrims since in one of the island’s caves John the Theologian, one of Christ’s disciples, wrote the “Book of Revelations”.
Karpathos is the second largest island in the Dodecanese Archipelago, spectacular, rugged and quieter than many of the islands in the region. The island’s long history is documented back to the Trojan Wars, where the Karpathians fought the Spartans. Today, the island is starkly different to the rest of the Dodecanese. The island didn’t fall under the influence of the Knights of St John, and because of its remote location, much of the original culture has remained.
Symi, in the Marmaris Straits, is the Greek island closest to Turkey. It’s a quiet island with a long history of sponge diving and ship building. Today, it receives many visitors from nearby Rhodes, visitors looking to explore this peaceful and mountainous enclave rich in culture. The island is also mentioned in the Iliad as the home of King Nireus
